Meet the South Side Skinks ladies

Rummy and Coqui: Valenskink's Day! is a free interactive fiction role-playing video game wherein you can spend Valentine’s Day with the VTuber duo, Rummy and Coqui. This indie visual novel is a promotional game for the two’s YouTube account and is fully-voiced by them. The graphics are in 2D instead of their 3D virtual avatars but their personalities are still present in the story. Be warned that this contains strong language, just like their usual content.

Welcome to the gang

A virtual YouTuber or “VTuber” is an online entertainer on YouTube who uses a virtual avatar generated using computer graphics. This type of content creator started becoming highly popular around 2016 and there is now a large following for various fictional characters that are just controllable 3D virtual character models. Some YouTubers had eventually gotten video games about them—whether fan-made or it. Rummy and Coqui capitalized on this and released a Valentine’s Day game about themselves.

Rummy and Coqui: Valenskink's Day!—fully titled as “Valenskink’s Day! A Rummy and Coqui Choose-Your-Own-Adventure!”—features the 2D versions of the delinquent VTubers. The story revolves around you being the new member of their little gang and having to do errands for the two to celebrate the special holiday. It’s not too obvious at first but this is actually a dating sim of sorts—although there’s no real resolution to your relationship with the two.

Like most visual novels, you have to choose from various dialogue or action options to unlock endings here. There are 7 possible endings in total: two Good, two Bad, and 3 “Okay” endings. They’re easy to get since the game’s pretty short. However, you can’t check out their CGs again due to the lack of an art gallery in the menu. Plus, Rummy’s voice is low and soft despite the in-game volume already maxed out.

A different kind of Valentine’s

If you’re a fan, Rummy and Coqui: Valenskink's Day! is a nice little holiday VN you can try out for free. It’s easy to get the endings and you get to hear Rummy and Coqui’s voice-acting prowess. However, the CG art isn’t easily accessible and Rummy’s voiced lines aren’t loud enough. However, if you like this art style, try out River City Girls since its character designer also created Rummy and Coqui’s models.

PROS

  • Fully-voiced by the VTubers
  • 7 endings
  • Expands the VTubers’ canon lore
  • Short and succinct

CONS

  • No art gallery to view CGs
  • Most of Rummy’s voiced lines are too quiet
